2007 chevrolet silverado 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The all-new next-generation pickups are here. introductionthe all-new chevy silverado is here. Completely redesigned, the new silverado is built on a stiffer chassis. Also very important, the 2007 silverado features an all-new interior that can be outfitted for work or pleasure.  the new silverado is designed to continue its reputation among owners as the 'strongest, most dependable and longest lasting truck on the road.'  the new styling is bold yet still conservative when compared with the latest pickups from dodge, nissan, toyota and ford. While the sheet metal is all new, the main reason the new silverado looks bolder is that it's three inches wider in front and an inch wider in the rear than the outgoing generation. (the older-generation trucks will continue to be sold as the 2007 silverado classic. Naturally, not all engines  extended cab and crew cab models have back seats and windows in the side doors that power down. The extended cab has rear access doors that are hinged at the rear but that open to 170 degrees to provide full access to the rear seating area.  the standard cab can be outfitted with a standard (6-foot, 6-inch) or long (8-foot) beds. Options include driver and front-seat side-impact air bags, side-curtain airbags, stabilitrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology, autotrack active transfer case, ultrasonic rear parking assist, onstar.  option prices vary by trim level and body style. Among them: a cargo management rail system for the truck bed 175), a power sliding sunroof 795), 20-inch wheels 1,295), a power sliding rear window 200), rear-seat entertainment system 1,955), navigation system 2,250), rear-locking differential 395), stabilitrak electronic stability control 425). Accessories such as step rails and chrome exterior trim are available from chevy truck dealers.  note that until production of the all-new 2007 model ramps up, dealers will continue to sell the former version as the 2007 chevrolet silverado classic. This is the previous-generation version and should not be confused with the vehicle covered in this report. walkaroundthe 2007 chevy silverado may not have the aggressive styling of the dodge ram or nissan titan or even the toyota tundra or ford f-150, but its upright design may be considered both bold and appealing to its faithful customers, and they buy hundreds of thousands of silverados each year.  the new design gives the 2007 chevy silverado a taller and stronger appearance than the previous generation. Indeed, the new silverado should look stronger because it's some three inches wider in front and an inch wider in the rear.  however, a more raked windshield (raked at 57 degrees) and careful aerodynamic and body-building engineering make the truck both quieter on the inside and more fuel efficient. Gm boasts that the silverado and gmc sierra are the first full-size trucks to offer both 300 horsepower and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.  the large, gold chevy bowtie badge is set against a wide, three-bar chrome grille. The grille is flanked by stacked headlamps sporting the latest reflector-optics. The front bumper incorporates rectangular fog lamps.  the hood has a wide power dome. Bulging front fenders wrap over the front wheels and incorporate the headlamps within their forward sweep. Likewise, the rear quarter panels are punctuated by large faired wheel wells.  the rear view of the truck features stacked tail lamps on either side of a tall tailgate that has a sculpted center section that mimics and inverts the shape of the fender flares.  built on what general motors calls its gmt900 platform, the silverado shares much of its underpinnings with the tahoe suv, though the pickup truck gets a unique rear frame section that is 245 percent stiffer. Overall, compared to the former gmt800 truck, the frame is 234 percent stiffer torsionally, 62 percent more resistant to bending and 136 percent stiffer laterally. All of this allows such things as reducing the gap between the truck bed and passenger compartment and between fenders and bumpers. It also enhances aerodynamics and fuel efficiency and allows suspension components to provide improved ride and handling characteristics.  the front suspension has switched from torsion bars to coil-over shock absorbers and the rack-and-pinion steering gear is mounted to the engine cross member frame to provide enhanced control and feedback. The truck also has a new rear axle design with shocks absorbers mounted outboard and more upright for better dynamic control. interiorthe silverado wt and lt come with what chevy calls the pure pickup truck interior while the ltz features a more luxurious interior.  the pure pickup interior is more driver oriented, includes two glove boxes in the dashboard, one of them just about the right size to hold a pair of work gloves and a few small items, and a 40/20/40-split front bench seat with the center section of the seat back folding down to form a wide arm rest with lots of storage capacity. This interior also features larger switchgear controls and interior door handles designed to be easily manipulated even while wearing bulky work gloves.  the more luxury-oriented interior includes bucket seats with a permanent center console with 20 liters of storage capacity. The center stack also puts ventilation and audio controls within easy site and reach of the front seat passenger. This version has a single glove box in the dash.  extended cabs feature stadium-style seating with an elevated view for those sitting in the second row. Both the extended cab and crew cab versions offer plenty of rear legroom. The rear seat bottoms can be easily be folded up to provide more room on the floor for cargo. Rear seats are split 60/40 so one side can be folded up for cargo while the other is used for seating.  chevy says the interior of the new sierra is 20 percent quieter than its predecessor, thanks to enhanced insulation materials, much like those used in the company's sport utility vehicles, and to aerodynamic improvements that reduce wind noise. driving impressionwe've driven two versions of the all-new 2007 chevy silverado on paved and gravel roads in the desert west and north of phoenix. Later we got into the more upscale version of the lt with an extended cab and standard bed, same v8 engine and same z85 suspension. But it also was sure-footed and the v8 provided more than sufficient. Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ AM/FM✔ CD Changer✔ Navigation System✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ CD Player✔ Aluminum Wheels

2007 chevrolet silverado classic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A brand-new example of an old truck. introductionthink of the 2007 chevy silverado classic as a completely restored vintage truck. Or perhaps it's more like the discovery of a brand-new vehicle sitting in an old, abandoned warehouse.  chevy truck introduced an all-new line of silverado pickups for 2007 and we love them. The 2007 silverado classic is exactly the same truck as the 2006 silverado, which was essentially the same as the 2005, 2004, and 2003 models.  these previous-generation trucks are sold on the basis of price. The 2007 silverado classic models retail for about $2,000 less than the newer generation models. And that's not counting rebates and incentives.  the newer generation silverado is vastly superior to the outgoing classic by every measure and it will almost certainly hold its value better.  still, the silverado classic is a solid truck. It certainly beats a used truck. It's quick and it's comfortable. Boxed and hydroformed frame rails give it a strong, rigid platform, like a rock, as its ads used to say. Heated leather seats, xm satellite radio and other options make long days spent in a silverado classic comfortable. Three trim levels are available: w/t, ls, and lt, plus a sporty ss. Avaialble only as a crew cab with a 6-foot, 6-inch bed (instead of the standard 1500 crew cab's 5-foot, 8-inch bed), the 1500hd hauls 3,129 pounds with 2wd, 2,838 pounds with 4wd, and tows up to 10,300 pounds. Power is provided by the big 6. 0-liter v8 that's used in the 2500hd/3500.  standard equipment on all silverado classics, even the most basic w/t (work truck, for $15,840), are am/fm stereo, tilt steering, driver information center, a chromed front bumper, painter rear step bumber, and 17-inch painted steel wheels. Air conditioning is now listed as an option 570). Extended cabs 21,465) come with automtic transmission.  moving up to ls trim (starting at $20,075) adds air conditioning, cruise control, a cd player, cloth instead of vinyl upholstery, and an expanded list of options. Ls extended cabs 23,940) come with automatic transission, and crew cabs 24,965) come with the 4. 8-liter v8.  silverado lt (starting at $23,350) is more luxurious, with carpeting, upgraded upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power windows, locks and mirrors. Again the crew cab version 28,515) comes with more, including the 5. 3-liter v8. Lt2 and lt3 option packages add yet more equipment, but both price and specific content depend on cab style, driveline, and other factors. Add a heavy-duty locking rear differential 325), fog lamps 140), and lt245/70r17 all-terrain tires 200) for serious off-roading.  silverado classic ss 33,280) is a performance model equipped with a high-output 345 horsepower vortec 6000 6. 0-liter engine designed for quick acceleration and relaxed cruising. Ss gets a high-performance z60 chassis package; optional 20-inch wheels and tires; and special exterior and interior trim. For the first time it is offered with 2wd as well as awd, the former giving this performance truck an 8100-pound towing capacity.  a hybrid option 1,500) is available in several states. Crew cab models offer a panasonic dvd passenger entertainment system 1,295) and rear-seat audio controls. Extended cabs and crew cabs offer a power sunroof 795). A passenger-s. walkaroundthe styling of the 2007 chevrolet silverado classic has an edgy angularity that the new silverado has abandoned in favor of a smoother, more aerodynamicaly integrated appearance. The mid-size colorado pickup still shares the classic's bold design cues; but otherwise chevy trucks (tahoe, suburban, avalanche, silverado) have all moved on to the new look.  one of silverado classic's most distinctive features are the way its headlights angle down at the top, like the determined eyebrows of a marine drill sergeant. A large band runs across the middle of the grille punctuated in the middle by a big, gold chevy bow tie. All of this seemed smoothly integrated into the front end, at least until we saw how much more smoothly the new silverado was put together. The classic's flared engine hood and squared-off wheel openings continue its aggressive theme down the sides of the truck. In the rear are bulging taillamps that maintain the chevrolet family look yet uniquely identify the silverado classic.  silverado classic's large door openings make getting in and out easier, and the door handles are big and easy to grab. Optional puddle lamps mounted beneath the big side mirrors light the ground along the sides of the truck, handy in the city as much as in the woods. Heavy-duty models have running lights on the roof, tailgate, and leading and trailing edges of their bulging rear fenders. They add visibility for improved safety. Indentations stamped into the inner bed walls can hold boards to form bulkhead dividers or a second floor for two-tier loading. The silverado's load floor is 31. 6 inches above the ground on 2wd models, and 33. 7 inches with 4wd. That's relatively low, and low is good when loading heavy cargo. Standard-box beds are 78. 7 inches long; long boxes are 97. 6 inches long. Both are 64. 8 inches wide at the floor. The crew cab's short box is 69. 2 inches long and 60. 2 inches wide at the floor. All three measure 50 inches wide between the wheel housings. interiorinside, the silverado classic is roomy and comfortable. The seats are big and cushy, though we don't always find them comfortable for long trips. The standard front bench seat can seat three, giving extended cab and crew cab models a six-person capacity. It's split 40/20/40, available in cloth or vinyl, and the middle part folds down to become a center console/armrest. We wouldn't want to ride across the state back there, but three adults can fit and be reasonably comfortable for a short trip. The rear-seat bottom folds up to provide space for cargo, but it's still in the way when trying to carry a lot of stuff, and the floor is not flat. The entire rear seat assembly can be removed with a wrench and lifted out through the door when cargo capacity is more important than passenger space.  crew cabs offer roomy rear seats and additional interior cargo space. The back seats in crew cab models are very comfortable, similar to the rear seats in a suburban or tahoe. The rear seats can be flipped down, like those in a suburban, to provide a big, secure cargo area.  optional bucket seats are more comfortable and adjust every which way. We like both the premium cloth and the optional leather. The bucket seats are separated by a deep center console that holds lots of stuff. The top of the lid features a nice rubber-lined indention handy for small items, though it would be even better if the rubber was an insert that could be removed for cleaning. The top of the console is angled forward, which seems unfortunate because clipboards and other items placed there tend to slide off. A big coat hook makes pickin. 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Advanced engineering in a familiar package. introductionford may have the best-selling pickup in america, but a whole lot of americans still prefer a chevrolet. While dearborn's most recent light-duty pickup has taken on a windswept, aerodynamic look, and dodge has carved a niche with its vaguely retro, little big-rig theme, chevrolet has stuck with a more conservative shape, bluff in the nose and square in the shoulders. Chevrolet feels its customers are more comfortable with traditional truck styling. So when the chevy pickup was totally re-designed, re-engineered and even re-named for 1999, its styling was updated but not radically changed.  at the same time, however, chevrolet caught up with (or even surpassed) the technology and refinement of the more radical looking ford and dodge. The silverado, as chevy calls its pickups now, is a great achievement, better than the previous 'c/k' truck in every respect. It rides better, handles better and stops quicker; it's faster and it's more comfortable. In fact, the silverado ranks as one of the most luxurious pickups we've ever driven.  for 2001, silverado adds even more power, convenience and durability. All extended-cab models now have two auxiliary rear doors, rather than just one on the curbside. Onstar is available on newer lt models. Three trim levels are available: base, ls, and lt. The 'half-ton' range includes both the 1500 series, with actual payloads ranging from 1593 to 2334 pounds (depending on bed, cab, and drive configuration), and the heavier-duty 2500 series with payloads in the 2612-3224-pound range. Just to make things as confusing as possible, there's also a 1500hd model with a crew cab body.  silverado 1500 models are available with a 4. 8-liter v8, a 5. 3-liter v8, and a 4. 3-liter v6. The 2500 is powered exclusively by a 6. 0-liter v8.  three-quarter-ton silverados are badged 2500hd and 3500, and offer payloads up to 6089 pounds. Look for those in a separate nctd. Com test drive. walkaroundsilverado's frame is the stiffest and lightest truck frame general motors has ever built. The front frame rails are hydroformed, a new process that uses high-pressure hydraulics to shape relatively large and complex components that used to be fabricated from smaller stampings. Tubular crossmembers and roll-formed mid-rails increase rigidity further. These feature a delayed-upshift mode for towing. They are excellent transmissions. interioras with the exterior design, the silverado interior reflects traditional chevrolet thinking. The doors and door openings are now the largest in the industry, while the cab is the roomiest.  the instrument package looks like a cross between what is found in the new corvette and what was used in the old c/k trucks. All use pleasant white-on-black graphics.  the sound-system control panel is located above the climate controls. Air conditioning outlets and a set of drop-down cup holders are built in for rear-seat passengers. A compass is incorporated into the lt model's overhead console, along with three storage areas for sunglasses, garage door opener, and small items. When cargo capacity is more important than hauling passengers, the entire rear seat assembly can be removed with a wrench and lifted out through the side door.  about the only thing we didn't like was the design of the interior door handles, which operate in an up-and-in arc and felt loose whenever we used them. The system calls for assistance automatically if the truck's airbags have deployed. driving impressionwe loved every mile we put on the silverado lt. It drives like a luxury car and is supremely smooth and quiet. That smooth, quiet, unified feel is largely due to the new chassis, which provides a 23-percent increase in stiffness. New mounting and isolation hardware reduces noise and vibration. A cast magnesium beam behind the instrument panel and a lateral steel beam between the magnesium beam and the right side of the dash further reinforce the stiff body. Squeaks and rattles have been eliminated. This is one strong truck, and its chassis rigidity allows the suspension to soak up and manage bumps and ruts and tar strips so well that its overall ride behavior is near luxury. Even the rack-and-pinion system has a fairly wide dead spot in the center when cruising, which chevrolet says is designed to minimize steering corrections on the highway. That's enough to smoke the rear tires at will. The new engine is a much better small-block than before, and we recommend the 5. 3 over the smaller 4. 8-liter version.  the brakes are substantially improved over the old c/k brakes, and it's a welcome improvement. Braking force comes into play only an inch into the pedal travel, a welcome improvement over the mushy pedal on the previous pickup. A new feature called dynamic rear proportioning improves stability under heavy braking, whether the truck is loaded or empty. And it is the newest design from the big three detroit manufacturers. The silverado lt we drove is the smoothest, quietest, most civilized, best equipped, and most enjoyable pickup truck we've driven in many years.
