2013 kia sportage review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Unique style, unusual value. introductionthe kia sportage is a sporty crossover utility vehicle, conveniently sized and well-executed in almost every way. The 2013 sportage sx gets a respectable 21/28 mpg epa city/highway rating with front-wheel drive and 20/25 mpg with awd.  we found the standard 2. 4-liter engine delivers its power smoothly and mostly in a linear manner, with only an occasional, slight surge after an upshift in the automatic as the electronics adjust to the changing load. Those gear changes are clean, if not remarkably sharp, with ready downshifts for overtaking or merging.  the steering feels heavier in the awd version but is reasonably responsive in both, with good directional stability. All-wheel drive comes with a limited locking feature for low-speed use in adverse conditions.  the 2013 kia sportage is changed only slightly from last year. 2013 sportage models can be distinguished by revised kia badges. Power folding mirrors and sun visor extenders come on all 2013 sportage models. Led accent lights come on 2013 sportage lx and 2013 sportage ex models; the 2013 sportage sx gets led daytime running lights. The 2013 sportage ex is available with a new blue interior package. Sportage was redesigned for the 2011 model year. Some interior features were added for 2012.  the styling looks fresh and sharp from every angle. Character lines are crisp but subdued, contrasting nicely with the overall rounded look. Blackened lower trim panels imply good ground clearance while keeping the tires visually in proper proportion to the body.  we found the interior accommodations comfortable, though the sportage lacks the interior roominess of its competitors, the honda cr-v, toyota rav4, and subaru forester. The front seats offer good support. Leather-trimmed seats and an air-cooled driver's seat is available. An am/fm/cd/mp3 six-speaker stereo with siriusxm radio comes standard, with a subwoofer and external amplifier optional. An optional navigation system with a touch screen includes a rearview camera, an excellent safety feature. Sportage ex and sx get dual-zone, automatic climate control.  cargo capacity is a generous 26. 1 cubic feet behind the second seat but a less-impressive 54. 6 cubic feet with the second seat folded. Sportage, lx and ex models come with the 2. 4-liter engine, while the 2. 0-liter turbo is exclusive to the sx. The base model is available with front-wheel drive only; lx, ex, and sx can be ordered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (awd).  sportage 19,000) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, bluetooth capability, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, am/fm/cd/mp3/siriusxm satellite radio with usb and auxiliary ports, 60/40 flat folding rear seat, trip computer, and p215/70r16 black wall tires on alloy wheels. New for 2013 are led accent lights for the headlamp clusters, now standard on all models. The base model comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive; an automatic transmission is not available.  sportage lx 21,200) and sportage lx awd 22,700) add the 6-speed sportmatic automatic transmission, led turn signals on the outside mirrors, privacy glass on all but the forward windows, keyless entry, and 225/60r17 tires on17-inch alloy wheels. Factory options are limited to a convenience package 1,800) that bundles uvo/microsoft voice-activated infotainment with a backup warning system, rearview camera, telescopic steering column, roof rails, rear spoiler, heated power mirrors, cargo cover, cooling glove box, floor mats, and lighted vanity mirrors; and a navigation package 1,500) with siriusxm traffic information, rearview camera display and a premium audio system boosted by a subwoofer and an external amplifier.  sportage ex 24,200) and sportage ex awd 25,700) upgrade with dual-zone climate control with ionized air filter, stain-resistant seat fabric, power driver's seat including lumbar, telescoping steering wheel, premium uvo, backup warning system, auto headlamps, fog lamps, leather trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, lighted vanity mirrors, cooling glove box, floor mats, and p235/55r18 tires on alloy wheels. The ex premium package 3,100) includes leather seat trim, heated front seats, air-cooled driver seat, push-button start-stop, upgraded supervision gauge cluster, panoramic sunroof, power-folding heated mirrors, auto-dimming inside mirror with homelink and compass, and a cargo cover. The one remaining factory option for the ex is a no-cost two-tone blue interior with black headliner, which is not available with the premium package or navigation.  sportage sx 26,900) and sportage sx awd 28,4000) feature the more powerful turbocharged engine and upgrade to leather seats, supervision gauge cluster, push-button start-stop, and power folding outside mirrors. Special appearance features include a black mesh grille outlined in dark chrome, led daytime running lights, and dual exhausts. The sx premium package 2,000) adds heated front seats, air-cooled driver's seat, heated outside mirrors, auto-dimming inside mirror with homelink and compass, cargo cover, and a panoramic sunroof. Navigation 1,200) with rearview camera and siriusxm traffic is available but deletes the uvo.  safety features include full-length side curtains with rollover sensor, abs, electronic stability control with traction control, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, and tire pressure monitoring system. Also standard are downhill brake control, which when engaged automatically regulates downhill speed to no more than 5 mph, and hill-start assist control, which keeps the sportage from rolling backward when starting on a hill. The optional rearview camera can help the driver notice small children behind the vehicle when backing up. walkaroundkia sportage styling is unconstrained by cliche or convention. From nose to tail, from footprint to luggage rack, sportage shares almost nothing outside of its overall proportions with more conventionally styled crossovers and mini-suvs.  the upper grille is a bigger, bolder rendering of the kia-signature tiger nose. The sx sports its own, subtly different grille, which replaces the delicate horizontal-over-vertical mesh of lesser models with a more rugged chain-link texture; and the bright-chrome surround with chrome of a darker tone.  the concaved hood flows smoothly back into the decently raked windshield. The high beltline reduces the real estate available for side windows, making for almost a chopped look, like street rods of the mid-20th century. A creased depression in the lower portion of the door panels breaks up the expanse of sheet metal, thereby lowering the impression of mass. The flat black trim from the front lower fascia continues around the sides, outlining the wheelwells, which the tires fill quite nicely, and underscoring the rocker panels.  most of the styling lines on the backside pinch inward, toward, again, the trademark oval parked in the middle of the liftgate. The backlight is about the same proportion to the bodywork as the side windows, i. Taillights narrow as they look toward the centerline. Turn indicators are slotted into the rear bumper, an interesting location that at first blush appears to favor a closely following driver at the expense of one two or three cars back. A creased lip marks the bottom edge of the liftgate, above a license plate space that occupies the middle of the rear bumper where a continuation of the flat black trim panel completes its circumnavigation of the sportage's lower body. Dual exhausts with bold oval openings distinguish the sx. interiorthe kia sportage interior displays as much bold imagination as the exterior, while remaining ergonomically friendly and eye-pleasing. Nothing too fancy or gimmicky, just well crafted and eminently usable.  essential instrumentation is easy-to-read analog, with a large, circular dial for the speedometer bracketed by a half-circle.

2007 bmw 5 series review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A luxury sedan for drivers. introductionthe bmw 5 series puts an emphasis on the driving. This mid-size luxury sedan remains a true sports sedan in any of its variations, including the 530ix wagon and other models equipped with all-wheel drive. Regardless of engine size or equipment level, the bmw 5 series delivers lively acceleration, precise handling and outstanding brakes. And while there are no significant changes for the 2007 model year, the 5 series is anything but stale. For 2006, bmw introduced new engines across the board, including a high-tech magnesium alloy six cylinder for the 525i and 530i and a larger, more powerful v8 for the 550i.  behind its kabuki-eyebrow headlights, the 5 series is a true driver's car, with more model choices than most cars in its class. Even the base 525i boasts spirited performance, with decent fuel economy to lower operating costs. The more powerful six-cylinder in the 530i matches some v8s, while the 550i delivers true high performance by any definition. The limited-production m5 can out-accelerate, out-brake and out-corner some expensive sports cars, with comfortable seating for five. There's a wagon for those who want more room for cargo. It has the features, comfort and convenience of full-size luxury sedans, the sporting character of smaller ones, and a good compromise between interior space and physical bulk. In many respects, it's the benchmark for critics and auto industry engineers alike.  as such, the 5 series is loaded with technology, and some of its systems have a dark side. The i-drive point-and-click control system, for example, takes time and energy to learn, and drivers who aren't willing to invest the energy, or those who just prefer to keep things simple, might want to look at a competitor. But those who place a premium on driving satisfaction should start their shopping here.  the bmw 5 series sedans are available with six- or eight-cylinder engines or an ultra-high performance v10, and manual, automatic, or automatic-shifting sequential manual transmissions and optional all-wheel drive. The 5 series sport wagon is offered only with a six-cylinder and all-wheel drive. lineupthe 525i 43,500) features a 3. 0-liter inline-6 generating 215 horsepower. The 525i comes with a six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed automatic transmission 1,275) with steptronic shifting.  the 530i 47,500) gets a 255-hp version of the 3. 0-liter six and xenon adaptive headlights. The 530i comes standard with the six-speed manual. Also standard are seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters; seatbelts are the first line of defense in a crash so be sure to use them. Active safety features include antilock brakes with dynamic brake control auto-proportioning, dynamic traction control, dynamic stability control. Also standard is the standard bmw assist communications package with automatic collision notification, an sos button, roadside assistance and locater service. It seems more substantial than some small luxury or sport sedans, with more usable interior space. At the same time it's not so physically bulky as large sedans, and therefore easier to maneuver in tight spaces and to park.  the 5 series sports bmw's now-familiar corporate design themes, introduced on the larger 7 series sedan and subsequently applied to the smaller 3 series. Bmw's new approach to styling has been discussed as frequently as any in the car world, and more than occasionally criticized. On the 5 series at least, the curvy front-end, flat sides and high rear deck stand out less than they once did. That may simply mean we've grown more familiar with the shape, rather than more appreciative.  the critics contend that, with the flared-nostrils look in front and the chunked-off shape of the trunk lid, the 5 series seems almost like two halves taken from different cars. In any case, the look doesn't seem to have hurt 5 series sales.  the comma-shaped, wraparound taillights apply a technology introduced by bmw that has spread to a number of makes. The company calls them adaptive brake lights, and they illuminate more intensely, over a larger area, when the anti-lock brake system engages, in other words when the driver is braking as hard as possible. The point is to inform drivers following that it's stopping quickly, possibly in an emergency situation. It could help, if the driver following correctly interprets the increased intensity of the brake lights.  bmw re-introduced a 5 series wagon for 2006. The rear gate opens electrically, with a switch on the key fob or dashboard, and swings very high for easy access to the load floor. A big reflector on the bottom of the gate adds an element of safety in darkness.  the lift gate has a soft-close feature. When it's lowered, it automatically sucks itself shut, no slamming required. The glass window opens separately, which is convenient when dropping a briefcase or a couple of bags in back.  new for 2007: xenon adaptive headlights are now standard on the 530i and above. The xenon high-intensity discharge headlights offer a brighter, more intense, more white light that appears blue when we're used to seeing halogen lights with a warmer, relatively yellow light. Adaptive means the lenses turn slightly with the steering, throwing light around a curve in the direction of travel. interiorbmw's current 5 series sedans are noticeably roomier than the previous-generation, pre-2004 models. Front passengers have a fraction more shoulder and head room, but the improvement is more obvious in the back, where there's more shoulder room and a lot more legroom. Increased cabin space put the 5 series on better footing with key competitors like the mercedes e-class, audi a6, and lexus gs.  the finish and quality of materials is nice. Soft plastics covering the dashboard and doors are handsome and rich to the touch. The seats feature a draped-leather look, with the upholstery hung loosely over the seat frames. Leather inserts in the front door panels compliment the seats.  the standard 5 series seats are very good, with above-average support and just enough give to keep from feeling hard. The seats in the optional sport package have so many adjustments that those who lean toward obsessive/compulsive may start stressing out as they try to settle in. They're firm, but not church-pew hard like the previous-generation sport seats.  the 5 series dashboard applies bmw's familiar double-wave theme, with one wave or bubble over the instrument cluster, defining the driver's area, and another that begins over the dash center and sweeps towar. 2013 kia rio review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Stylish, efficient and fun. introductionthe kia rio delivers excellent fuel economy, perky performance and a strong warranty for an attractive price with a degree of style. The 2013 kia rio sedan and hatchback get a revised badge on the hood, trunk lid and steering wheel. Steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters now come on the sx model; hatchback ex and sx trims get a standard cargo floor tray and net. Its 1. 6-liter engine uses direct injection to aid power and fuel economy, resulting in the best horsepower in the segment and fuel economy highway ratings in the 40-mpg range. The optional idle stop and go system found on the eco package, typically reserved for more expensive cars, automatically turns the engine off and on at long stops, saving more fuel for urban drivers and reducing emissions.  rio's all-disc brakes are uncommon in this bracket, as are its available 17-inch wheels. Suspension is conventional in design, delivering a ride suitable for long commutes and behavior suitable for the class.  cabins are nicely put together. They're easy to live with and not overwrought with gimmicky styling. Everything is easy to operate and anyone can quickly master the controls. Kia's reputation for value is carried on by standard features such as air conditioning and power-heated mirrors. Mid-line rio models have bluetooth as standard. Upgrades include navigation, kia's uvo infotainment system by microsoft, rear camera, leather upholstery and heated front seats.  both sedan and hatchback models offer useful space; we favor the hatch for its added load flexibility and maneuverability. Rio seats are comfortable. And there's good cubby storage in the center console and side door pockets. Interior room stacks up well against competitors, but while rio is best in terms of front legroom, it suffers from cramped legroom in the rear.  on the road, the rio is smooth and feels refined for the class. Lx models come with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, wind-up windows and manual door locks, heated power mirrors, tilt steering, variable intermittent wipers, six-way manual driver seat, split folding rear seat, am/fm/cd/mp3/aux/usb stereo with steering wheel controls and 15-inch steel wheels. Rio 5-door hatchbacks include rear wipe/wash.  rio ex 16,500) and rio 5-door ex 16,700) come with the 6-speed automatic. Rio ex models upgrade with power windows and locks, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, bluetooth, sliding center console armrest, front tweeters, metallic cabin trim with faux leather door panels, power-folding mirrors, cruise control, and chrome trim. Optional is a convenience package 1,150) adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, additional interior lighting, upgraded audio system with uvo-by-microsoft rear camera, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, automatic headlamps, fog lamps and 15-inch alloy wheels. The eco package 400) includes automatic stop/start, which turns the engine off when stopped to save fuel.  rio sx 17,700) and rio 5-door sx 17,900) are offered with the automatic transmission only and come with everything found on the ex plus a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, dual exhaust outlets, sports suspension calibration, 205/45r17 tires on alloy wheels, larger front brakes, projector headlamps, led tail and front running lamps, fog lamps, painted center dash, alloy pedal covers, and uvo entertainment with rear camera. A premium package 2,300) adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, pushbutton start/smart key, led map lights, uvo navigation and moonroof.  safety features, all standard, include front airbags, front side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, electronic stability control and hill-start assist. walkaroundfamily resemblances are apparent with the kia rio. Certain styling cues are shared with the current-generation optima midsize sedan, which underwent an extreme makeover from dowdy to dapper in its last redesign. Rio's looks aren't groundbreaking, but they are as contemporary as anything in the class.  rio sedan and hatchback models share front doors and basic structures but surface cosmetics keep them separate. The sedan mirrors the optima more, with the pinched center top grille and full-width lower air intake. The hatchback has a much smaller upper grille, almost like an engine air intake rather than cooling, and a deeper lower grille segmented in three sections where the angled side sections meet the flat center. Sedan and hatch models use different headlamp housings, and the sx version of each also gets unique lights, including led daytime running lights. On both body styles the front wheels are well outboard of the headlights, adding a lower, more aggressive look; it's not mean, nor as comic-like as some small cars.  a pronounced wedge profile in side view shares a deep front door window, and ahead of the mirror, a small triangular piece of fixed glass that's quite useful for driver vision. The top crease of the scallop in the door panels echoes the windshield pillar line and fairs rearward, on the sedan leading directly to the top of the taillight. Combined with the slender roof pillar and minimal painted surfaces above the lamps, the sedan has an elegant, light, tailored look, disguising the substantial trunk height.  on the hatch the roofline tapers down, pinching the rear windows, one reason the rio hatch does not have more rear-seat headroom than the sedan. The short rear panels wrap around into the hatch, the lights protruding slightly (but still well inside the bumper) for better all-around viewing and staying cleaner in bad weather. On sx models, the taillights have led elements.  the hatchback's rear window is close to horizontal at the top edge, fitted with a small spoiler, and close to a semicircular arc along the bottom edge, reminiscent of the grinning grille on some mazdas. A dark close-out panel sweeps up from behind the rear wheels serves to visually lower and widen both models. With trunk or hatch open some portion of the taillights and low-mount reflectors remain visible to improve night-loading safety.  compared with the ford fiesta, chevrolet sonic, honda fit, and toyota yaris, the rio has a longer wheelbase but shorter overall length, and it's wider and lower than most. Extra wheelbase helps ride quality and stability, but a longer wheelbase with a shorter overall length also means shorter overhangs front and rear. All these dimension play into how the rio comes across a bit sportier than most other subcompacts. While it doesn't scream luxury, it doesn't scream economy car, either.  cloth upholstery feels smooth and breathable to the touch; we never slid around or got stuck to it in muggy weather. Some long-legged types noted short seat cushions but found the cabin roomier than expected.  rear-seat space is small, yet comparable to others in the class and is fine for kids or petite adults. The three-cylinder instrument panel provides the usual info, including an engine temperature gauge many manufacturers have relegated to warning lights. Crisp white-on-black lighting with red needles and central display ensures readability day or night. The traditional key was welcome, though at least once we had trouble pulling it back out of the ignition.  audio inputs and power points are ahead of the shifter, the control panel top center. 2004 toyota sienna review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The new class leader?. introductionthe toyota sienna is all new for 2004. Bigger and better than last year's model, it's the first in a parade of redesigned minivans and may be the new class leader. It's considerably larger than last year's model, and about $1,000 cheaper. Its v6 engine has been bored out for more power and now produces 230 horsepower, while a new five-speed automatic improves response and fuel economy. All come with the new v6 engine and the new five-speed automatic transmission. All are equipped with anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, which help the driver stop quickly and maintain control. The all-wheel-drive xle has a base msrp of $36,930.  numerous option packages are available for all grades.  safety features: a new latch system (lower anchor with tether for children) is used in all second-row seating positions to accommodate new-design child seats. Front side and side curtain srs airbags covering all three seat rows are standard on the xle limited, optional on all other grades. Before designing the new sienna, chief engineer yuji yokoya drove the previous sienna all over north america, through mexico, canada, and the u. S., through every state, every province, some 53,000 miles. A short, slight japanese man, yokoya-san was often accompanied by program manager john jula, a tall, burly american. An odd couple, they couldn't have been more different in stature, appearance, and temperament. But they shared a seriousness of purpose, a devotion to designing the best minivan ever created, and a strong sense of humor. Working with designers and engineers from around the world, they ferreted every weakness and shortcoming of the old (1998-2003) sienna and addressed it with this new sienna.  the biggest shortcoming of the old sienna was its lack of interior roominess. Yokoya saw families buried under luggage. He also determined it needed to be quieter so families could more easily converse on long drives. He wanted better seats. And he wanted to improve stability at high speeds, especially in cross winds and on crowned roads.  the all-new 2004 toyota sienna is substantially larger, wider, taller than the previous-generation model. Its wheelbase is 5 inches longer and the track is 4 inches wider than last year's model. Stretching 200 inches over a 119-inch wheelbase, the new sienna is the same size as the biggest minivans on the market: the honda odyssey, dodge grand caravan, chrysler town & country, ford windstar, and the long-wheelbase versions of the chevrolet venture and pontiac montana.  everything on the sienna is big and bold: big headlamps and big taillamps light up the night and give the sienna presence in the dark. Black pillars, instead of body-colored pillars, make the new sienna look even larger than its considerable dimensions. A big windshield, big wipers, and wiper-mounted washer nozzles designed for snow belt improve driver visibility.  the sienna presents a sleek appearance by minivan standards, enhanced by its steeply raked windshield and the black pillars. The slot for the sliding doors is cleverly hidden, offering a cleaner look. There's lots of room for passengers and cargo. Fold the second- and third-row seats flat and the sienna can carry 4x8 sheets of plywood.  getting in and out of the sienna is easy. The power sliding doors are smooth and quiet and move more quickly than in the past, helpful for impatient passengers. Manual sliding doors and manual rear hatch on the le and ce models have a quality feel as well.  the rear side windows lower partly, though not below the center of gravity of a toddler, and feature anti-pinch protection designed to reduce chance of injuries to small hands and fingers. A nice feature is the availability of sunshades for the second- and third-row seats, which filters strong sunlight better than privacy glass.  up front the driver sits before a smooth, organic dash. Toyota says it splurged on the seats, which are designed to offer comfort for a variety of body shapes over long periods of time. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes. The ce comes with a nice cloth interior, though the door inserts are plain. Le features nicer cloth, nicer door inserts, and other trim. Two glove boxes are provided and a big center console holds 12 cds. Armrest compartments can each hold six cds and there's a spot for a small cell phone just to the right of the shifter. The dry cleaning hooks look big enough to accomodate a load of dry cleaning. In back are hooks for holding grocery bags. There's comparably good legroom and it feels roomy and airy with good room next to the passenger's head. That's impressive given that the sienna is fitted with side-curtain type airbags; they do not intrude into rear headroom as much as other designs. When not needed, the second-row seats tumble forward, presenting a friendly seat bottom to cargo or pets. The second-row seats are easy to remove and reinstall, though the captain's chairs weigh 49 pounds each.  seven. Serious gas savings. New car test drive said, ... The interior is where the corolla really shines. Inside, it doesn't feel like a small car, and it doesn't feel cheap, like many compacts feel... Power and associates gave the 2004 corolla 5 out of 5 power circles for overall initial quality. Air Conditioning
